Day 2 John Higgins v Mark Davis

I would say the Wizard of Wishaw is heavy favourite

Match Score John Higgins 3-6 Mark Davis

Frame 1: 61 from John mistake from Mark JH 1-0

Frame 2: Safety battle Higgins made 41 first chance then on the 2nd won the frame 2-0.

Frame 3: Higgins a makes 29 before running short on position and retreating to baulk. A safety exchange ensues. Higgins will be disappointed not to have made a bigger break there as the reds were pretty open with the pink on the black spot. Davis on the board

Frame 4: Clearance from Davis and we are level

Frame 5: 69 from Davis he leads again

Frame 6: 51 from Higgins 3-3

Frame 7: Davis leads again

Frame 8: 96 to extend his lead 5-3

Frame 9: 65 then a total clearance to get a 6-3 session win.

Higgins, who was beaten by Davis in December at the UK Championships, opened the session with a break of 61 to take the first frame and, while the second frame was a little less fluid in terms of potting, the former world champion prevailed 90-27.

Davis, who, despite being ranked 16th, had to qualify for the tournament courtesy of Ronnie O’Sullivan’s return to action, responded magnificently with breaks of 68 and 85 to draw level at the mid-session interval and he took the first frame after the interval with a break of 69.
Higgins, renowned for his break building abilities, responded with a 51 to level things up at 3-3 but Davis ground out the next frame 81-33 before a break of 96 confirmed the penultimate frame of the session to ensure that he’d have an overnight lead.

Davis then wrapped up the final frame of the session with a break of 64 to take the three frame advantage his play had merited.
