Frame 1: Ronnie pots the opening red to good applause no maximum now but a good start from the rocket, onto 52 with a nice blue + a cannon into the reds, John Virgo BBC Commentator says Ronnie needs one red into the yellow pocket it goes superb, going for a century here, no century 82 break 1-0.

Frame 2: Campbell breaks off poor one Ronnie is in again onto 40 ran out of position and deposited the blue breaks down on 49, a nice 24 from Marcus to get himself involved in this frame, down to the colours now, a brilliant green + position on brown for Marcus, a double on the pink Marcus Campbell on the board 1-1.

Frame 3: 26 from Marcus Campbell missed red in the corner pocket, and a 25 then another missed red easy that missed opportunity, Ronnie grabs it with a 62 2-1.

Frame 4: 55 from Campbell a nice safety, Ronnie 71 3-1 at the mid session interval.

Frame 5: Safety battle at the start of this one, Ronnie could be in now, 22 break and a heavy contact but the balls have run smoothly for Ronnie, a long safety battle at the moment, Campbell has a sniff of a chance, close frame this one, and Ronnie wins it by a point. 4-1.

Frame 6: 50 up for Ronnie in this one 85 break extends his lead. 5-1.

Frame 7: One back for Campbell break of 54, 5-2.

Frame 8: 86 from Ronnie gets his nice lead back 6-2.

Frame 9: 58 in that last frame 7-2 just like old times.

Ronnie O'Sullivan made a fine return to snooker to lead Marcus Campbell 7-2 after the opening session of their first round match at the Crucible.

The 37-year-old has played only one competitive match since winning his fourth world title last May.

But champion O'Sullivan won the first frame with a break of 82.

He followed up with breaks of 62, 71, 85, 86 and 58 to need only three more frames in the evening session to advance into the second round.

While former world champion Peter Ebdon claimed O'Sullivan looked in even better form than last year in practice, some expected him to be rusty after his long sabbatical.

"It has been a job well done so far. O'Sullivan will be really happy with his performance. He has been good in the balls and made some great clearances to pinch frames."

However, O'Sullivan, who was given a rapturous reception on his return, needed only one chance to win the first frame. Missed opportunities in the third and fourth frames proved costly for 40-year-old Scotsman Campbell as O'Sullivan went into the mid-session interval 3-1 ahead.

O'Sullivan nicked a scrappy fifth frame before he rattled in a break of 85 in the next to move into a 5-1 lead.

World number 27 Campbell reduced the deficit to three frames with a break of 54 but clearances of 86 and 58 saw O'Sullivan end the first session with a five-frame advantage.

On the other table, Ricky Walden opened up an 8-1 lead over fellow Englishman Michael Holt.

World number 12 Walden looked sharp, making a break of 140 as he secured a seven-frame lead over qualifier Holt. Walden and Holt will play to a finish on Sunday morning.

On Saturday afternoon, 2005 world champion Shaun Murphy plays Martin Gould, while Barry Hawkins plays exciting 21-year-old Jack Lisowski.

In the evening session, O'Sullivan and Campbell play to a finish and two-time world champion Mark Williams begins his campaign against fellow Welshman Michael White.
